The bizarre, yet talented experimental Brazilian-wave duo that is André Abujamra and Maurício Pereira recently celebrated their 30th anniversary in 2015, and are showing no signs of slowing down or even distancing themselves from their experimental-melodic roots. Western audiences will know them from the track ‘Mãoscolorida’, featured on Music from Memory’s 'Outro Tempo’. Brazilian audiences will know them from their unique take on the country’s musical legacy, and iconic style and performances. Os Mulheres Negras (Portuguese for ‘The Black Women’), blend exotic sax, guitar jams, synths - and in a way, are a more percussive, and very Brazilian version of Devo. Are they men? No, they are the Black Women.
